Canadian Seal Forum
9 November 2005
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) 2005 Seal Forum took place during November 7 and 8 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The two-day forum was boycotted by all animal welfare groups involved in the seal campaign, including Respect for Animals, which saw the event as a political sham.
The event was a meeting of sealing industry interests from across Canada to consult on the development of a new multi-year management plan.
Further meetings industry stakeholders were due to take place on November 9-10 to discuss access to the ice and allocations.
According to the DFO, new multi-year management plan will be completed before the start of the major seal hunting activity in 2006.
