Update on the 2007 seal hunt in Canada

The Department of Fisheries & Oceans has announced that the start date for the 2007 seal hunt in the Gulf of St Lawrence, Canada is to be 4 April.
This year's quota is 270,000 seals.
Approximately 78,000 of the quota will be killed in this phase of the hunt, with the remainder being killed in the area to the north of Newfoundland known as the front. The start date for this phase of the hunt has not been announced but the pups are born approximately 14 days later there.
